Uhm

Spurningur: My father has always given me silent treatments whenever I do something he doesn’t like or approve of. He’s a pretty closed off person, and often away from home. This used to affect me a lot before but I’ve just gotten kinda used to it ig. I don’t know what to do anymore, school has been so stressful and my relationship with food is getting bad again. I don’t even want help, I just want to stay and rot in my room forever.
Dear boy/girl
Thanks for writing to our mailbox.
Being given the silent treatment by a parent is not a small thing. It can be a form of emotional withdrawal, and over time it can teach you to feel like connection is conditional — like you only “deserve” closeness if you behave the right way. It can be difficult to have such a relationship with your parent, and although you say that you don’t want help, I think you should talk to someone about it – especially when you say that it is affecting your relationship with food.
